I work for Standard Life in the UK. When we migrated to WebSphere v5 we introduced a fully automated deployment and administration solution for WebSphere Applications, implemented in Perl. This solution has proved to be very stable, has saved us lots of money and has ensured integrity of data in our production systems.

This talk summarises the challenges we faced and how we addressed them.

It covers the framework we used, the creation of dynamic Jacl scripts (to administer WebSphere), interaction with databases and real-time progress reporting. It also highlights what worked well for us and tips on how to deal with DBAs, java developers, managers and business users.
