YAPC::Europe 2008, Newsletter 02
Copenhagen, 10 June 2008
Here is the second newsletter from the organizers of the 9th. YAPC::Europe to take place in Copenhagen, Denmark.
We are very busy with fleshing out details with the conference. Submitted talks have been processed and the schedule is in the making. Also keynotes have been scheduled.
CBS is a fantastic partner in this and everything we address with them is responded to rapidly and positively. We are currently working out the details with A/V equipment, room for Job Fair and catering at the venue.
We are hoping to announce the ticket price and open the registration shortly, we just need to get the last records in the budget aligned.
A conference is not a cheap event but we aim to keep the ticket price at a reasonable level, so we need sponsorships, by the time this newsletter is published the Call for Sponsors should be available, check it out and get back to us if you are interested in making this conference a special treat for all of the people attending, giving talks and organizing the conference.
Damian Conway to give keynote at YAPC::Europe 2008
We are happy to announce that Damian Conway will be attending YAPC::Europe 2008.
Damian Conway, Ph.D. and author of numerous books and CPAN contributions, has accepted our invitation to speak at the 2008 YAPC::Europe conference.
We do not yet know on what topic Damian Conway will talk, but we trust that his keynote will attract as many of our attendees as we can fit in our largest lecture hall, if not to say all of us.
Larry Wall to give keynote at YAPC::Europe 2008
We are glad to announce that Larry Wall will be attending this years European YAPC.
We hope Larry will share some of his insights and reflections on Perl/perl, community and the world in general, but we do not currently know what he has planned.
We are however happy to have him and his wife visiting Copenhagen and the 9th. YAPC::Europe conference.
Call for Sponsors
Our Call for Sponsors is finally out. Our sponsorshop goal is ambitious so we need your help.
Our sponsorship goal is 300.000 DKK / Approx 40.000 Euro. and we have a nice head start with a large sponsorshop from last years organizers Vienna.pm of 5.000 Euro.
But we still need plenty of sponsorships, please read the Call for Sponsors if interested, or contact us if you know of somebody who might be interested and we can do the work.
Please contact us at email if you are interested in sponsoring or know somebody who might be.
Attendee Wiki, editable google map
An editable map has been put on the conference site. Please feel free to add things, locations and sites you think could be of interest to attendees.
The Wiki is also slowly growing in size, please feel free to either add or request information to go on the Wiki.
Talks and Tracks
The deadline for talk submission has passed. We have received 105 talks and we have accepted 90. We have aimed for diversity in talks so we have accepted as many different speakers as possible.
At the same time we have asked a few seasoned speakers to be back up if some of the accepted talks do not get confirmed.
So with 90 talks lined up plus keynotes and lightning talks we have quite a schedule under construction.
So as it looks right now we are introducing a 4th. track, so there will be plenty to pick and choose from.
Epilogue
We do currently not have updates for all of activities, such as Job Fair and Perl training, but these activities are by no means dead or forgotten, so we hope to bring you more information on these activities in a future newsletter.
We can be reached at: if you have any questions or comments.
